We were asked by a design company called Shelf to solve their dilemma of binding a design brief booklet for their prestigious client Cecille & Boyd’s potential project called Wildland, a luxury retreat in Scotland. We used a limited edition distressed leather we’d recently bought to add the finishing touch to a beautiful package of leather bound books and booklets.
We got a little feature in this months VISI Magazine..
We got an awesome surprise yesterday when Jessie from Superbalist walked into our studio wearing these limited edition VANS that we customized in collaboration with Smith & Abrahams for the STR CRD expo up in Joburg. We did 10 pairs in a week and were so rushed that we never got any photo’s so for them to walk into our studio was a trip. They say if you love something set it it free and if it was meant to be it will return. We replaced the canvas tongues of these VANS Authentic sneakers with Smith & Abrahams logo’d hand stitched black napa leather tongues. It’s really hard stitching a tongue back in to a finished shoe so our solution was to hand stitch the tongues back using surgical forceps! We turned this functional fixing point into a decorative solution by using 5 cross stitches which gave the shoes a very unique Stockton Goods signature look. We also lined the insoles with black napa leather which also carried the S&A emblem. To the back of the sneakers we hand stitched a black napa looped tab and the shoes were finished off by replacing the standard laces with charcoal leather thong ala “Grassies” style. The shoes were packaged by S&A in custom made boxes and came together with a limited edition sweater. This thoroughly well thought out and designed project by Brad and Ant at Smith & Abrahams painstakingly hand stitched and crafted by us was received with woops of joy by the lucky few who got the nod. Not a bad first project for Stockton Goods. The best part is that Jessie works for Superbalist (formerly Citymob) and he snapped pics of our journals and various stationery and accessories prototypes we have lying around the studio. Potential future colabs in the pipeline…
